FIFA has labeled the World Cup draw in Washington DC as an exciting step towards the finals. However, the journey seems fraught with obstacles and uncertainties.

Prior to the event, concerns arise about the potential interference of US President Donald Trump, reminiscent of his actions at the Ryder Cup. Unlike the previous event involving only two teams, this draw will include representatives from 48 teams, even though some nations are yet to secure their spots. Notably, Iran will not participate in the draw due to visa issues.

Despite efforts by Iranian officials, including a plea to FIFA’s president, visas for some delegates, including the president of the Iranian Football Federation, have not been granted. Consequently, Iran plans to boycott the event, citing politicization.

The draw will be conducted by Rio Ferdinand, with NFL star Tom Brady as one of the assistants. Attendees will learn their group placements and opponents, but detailed match schedules will not be released until 24 hours later, breaking tradition.

The complete match schedule will be disclosed on Saturday, with FIFA planning a presentation alongside “FIFA legends.” This announcement will provide crucial information for teams and managers like Thomas Tuchel regarding time zones and match timings.

Notably, FIFA aims to separate the top four ranked teams until the semi-finals, including England. However, the complexity of determining team routes and positions remains a challenge, as explained by FIFA’s draw procedures.

With uncertainties looming, the World Cup anticipation builds, potentially setting the stage for a compelling sporting event.
