Jessica Ennis-Hill, the Olympic champion, will be participating in Kevin Sinfield’s charitable endeavor in Sheffield to support Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Ennis-Hill, a resident of Sheffield, has committed to running alongside Sinfield during the fourth installment of his ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge, scheduled for Thursday.
Sinfield, who commenced this latest challenge on Monday, aims to complete an ultra marathon each day for a week. This marks Sinfield’s sixth consecutive year undertaking challenges to benefit MND charities, having amassed over £10 million to date. The funds raised have contributed to the establishment of a pioneering center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.
The motivation behind Sinfield’s ongoing efforts stems from his former colleague and dear friend, Rob Burrow, being diagnosed with MND. Recognized globally for his remarkable dedication, Sinfield has garnered admiration worldwide. Ennis-Hill’s endorsement of his current initiative adds significant visibility to the cause of MND awareness.
A decorated athlete, Ennis-Hill secured Olympic gold in the heptathlon in 2012 and boasts three world championship titles. Post-retirement from athletics in 2016, she has pursued a successful media career and assumed patronage roles in various charitable organizations, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield remains resolute in his pursuit of finding a cure for MND. The recent revelation of England World Cup victor Lewis Moody’s MND diagnosis serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing necessity for advocacy. Moody plans to host a fundraising dinner in April and is contemplating organizing a charity bike ride in 2026.
Following the Sheffield leg of his challenge, Sinfield will proceed to Cumbria, Scotland, and ultimately conclude in Leeds on Sunday. To learn more about the initiative, visit https://www.therhinos.co.uk/the-club/sinfield-together-2025.
