Gabby Logan has shared a heartfelt tribute to her late father, Terry Yorath, who passed away at 75 after a brief illness. Yorath, the father of BBC presenter Logan, had to abruptly leave a recent episode of Match of the Day due to a family emergency.
In a statement released by the family following Yorath’s passing, Logan expressed her personal grief on social media, saying, “Rest in Peace Dad, our hearts are broken, your love and legacy lives on.”
Describing Yorath as a beloved father figure, the family acknowledged his footballing legacy but emphasized his role as a loving and gentle man. Yorath’s son, Daniel, tragically passed away in 1992 at the age of 15. Besides Gabby, Yorath is survived by his children Louise and Jordan, as well as grandchildren Reuben, Lois, Mila, Phoenix, and Paloma.
Yorath, who made 59 appearances for Wales and captained the national team 41 times, had a distinguished career with Leeds United, where he played 199 matches over nine years starting in 1967. Leeds United expressed deep sorrow at his death, calling him a club legend and offering condolences to his family, friends, and former teammates.
The club announced plans to wear black armbands in their upcoming FA Cup match against Derby County as a tribute to Yorath, with a formal remembrance scheduled for their next home game. Leeds boss Daniel Farke paid tribute to Yorath’s legacy and described him as a Welsh warrior and a cherished member of the Leeds United family.
Following the family emergency that led Gabby Logan to leave during the live broadcast of Match of the Day, Mark Chapman stepped in to take her place. Chapman, who co-presents the show with Logan, explained the situation to viewers and continued hosting the program in her absence.
