Ofcom has launched a new tool named Map Your Mobile, designed to help smartphone users identify the best network coverage in their area. By entering their postcode, consumers can access detailed information on mobile performance and coverage, enabling them to choose the most suitable network for their needs.
Natalie Black, Ofcom’s Group Director for Networks and Communications, emphasized the importance of selecting the right mobile network by stating, “Map Your Mobile provides insight into coverage and performance tailored to current smartphone requirements. By simply entering your postcode, you can discover the ideal mobile network for you.”
The tool not only assesses performance at home but also encourages users to check network quality at their workplace and during their daily commute. If a different network offers better service, switching may be a viable option.
Utilizing crowdsourced data from Opensignal and predictive data from UK mobile operators, Ofcom aims to provide accurate and reliable information to meet the increasing demand for seamless mobile connectivity. This improved tool is better aligned with modern users’ needs, catering to data-intensive activities like gaming, video streaming, and remote work.
Telecoms Minister Sir Chris Bryant highlighted the significance of fast and reliable mobile coverage in driving economic growth, stating, “Access to high-quality mobile connectivity is crucial for enhancing productivity and fostering economic prosperity. This new tool empowers consumers with precise, postcode-level information to select the network that best suits their requirements, whether at home, work, or on the go.”
