Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has expressed his belief that Lewis Hamilton may not have a long tenure at Ferrari following a lackluster debut season. Steiner, aged 60, has endorsed the talented young driver Oliver Bearman as a potential successor to Hamilton, anticipating a transition before the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix.
The speculation surrounding Hamilton’s future has intensified due to his underwhelming performance at Ferrari. Steiner suggests that if Hamilton’s struggles persist into the next season, the seven-time world champion’s association with the Italian team could be cut short prematurely.
Bearman, who previously substituted for Carlos Sainz at the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix last season, has affiliations with Ferrari’s Driving Academy since 2022 and has impressed with his performance at Haas this year.
Steiner and Sky Sports F1 pitlane reporter Ted Kravitz share the opinion that Bearman is likely to take over Hamilton’s role at Ferrari in the future. Steiner, in an interview on ‘The Red Flags podcast,’ praised Bearman’s skills and consistency, indicating his readiness to step up if needed.
Despite the ongoing speculation, Hamilton has hinted at staying with Ferrari for the foreseeable future, citing his existing contract.
