Ricky Hatton was reported to be in good spirits during a visit from his family shortly before his passing, according to testimony presented at a Coroner’s Court session on Thursday. The inquest, presided over by Alison Mutch at South Manchester’s Coroner’s Court in Stockport, indicated a preliminary cause of death as ‘hanging,’ with a full inquest scheduled for March 20, 2026.

Paul Speak, Hatton’s manager and close friend, discovered Hatton in an unresponsive state at his residence in Gee Cross, Hyde, on September 14. The pair had plans to travel to Dubai from Manchester Airport.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed Hatton’s demise and stated that there were no suspected foul play involved, referring the case to the coroner. Family members last saw Hatton two days before his discovery, where he was reported to be well. However, he failed to attend a scheduled event the next day without explanation.

Details of the missed event were not disclosed during the court proceedings. Speak recalled the moment he found Hatton unresponsive, expressing his initial confusion and shock before alerting the authorities. He emphasized his belief that Hatton did not intend to harm himself, leaving the final determination to the coroner.

Following Hatton’s funeral at Manchester Cathedral on October 10, a procession took place through Hyde and Manchester, passing significant locations associated with the late boxing legend. The event drew a large crowd and was attended by notable figures from the boxing world, including Tyson Fury, Liam Gallagher, Frank Bruno, Tony Bellew, Wayne Rooney, Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness, and Amir Khan.

During the funeral service, touching eulogies were shared, praising Hatton as both a sporting icon and a hero of the working class. The cortege also made stops at key locations like Etihad Stadium before a private committal attended only by close family and friends.
