A young man is in critical condition after attempting a shortcut home following a night out at a pub that resulted in a severe accident.
Brayden Cook, 19, had been enjoying an evening with friends at a pub in the Peak District during a hiking trip. After a few drinks, he and a friend decided to take what they thought was a quicker route back to their accommodation by climbing over a fence. Unfortunately, on the other side, there was a steep slope leading to the road. Brayden fell unexpectedly far, hitting his head on the concrete below and losing consciousness.
His mother, Penny, was devastated when she arrived at Royal Stoke Hospital and saw her son in a coma with serious head injuries. Brayden suffered a traumatic brain injury and facial fractures, requiring him to stay in the hospital for potentially six months with a year-long rehabilitation ahead.
Penny, a physiotherapist, anxiously waits for Brayden to wake up as she describes the initial shock of seeing him in such a grave condition. She mentioned the extent of his injuries, including the swollen eye and facial bruises.
The family had plans for a backpacking trip to Thailand, but due to Brayden’s condition, this has been put on hold. Penny is raising funds for Brayden’s private neuro-rehabilitation treatment and to cover expenses while she supports him during his recovery.
Donations to assist Brayden’s recovery can be made through his GoFundMe page.
