Jon Rahm acknowledged that Joaquin Niemann was likely more deserving of claiming the LIV Golf title after narrowly edging out the Chilean for the victory. Rahm secured his second consecutive LIV honor by finishing at 22-under in Indianapolis on Sunday, despite losing in a playoff.

The triumph earned the 30-year-old a substantial £13.3 million in prize money. Rahm, who shot 11-under on the final day, was not crowned the weekend’s LIV champion, as that honor went to Sebastian Munoz, Niemann’s teammate at Torque GC. Munoz set a professional golf record with a 59 on Friday.

Niemann, with five wins this year compared to Rahm’s zero, hinted at the need for a review of LIV Golf’s points structure after narrowly missing out on the overall standings. However, he commended Rahm following the event, stating, “It was quite a show by Jon. I knew I needed to play well against him.”

Niemann finished tied for fourth place at -17 for the weekend, acknowledging that his performance on the back nine was commendable but fell short due to missed putts. Rahm, despite expressing mixed feelings about his win, praised Niemann’s exceptional season and acknowledged Niemann’s strong case for victory.

Reflecting on his win, Rahm mentioned the challenges of losing two consecutive playoffs and the fortune required to emerge victorious. Rahm now adds a second LIV Golf title to his illustrious career, which includes wins at the 2023 Masters and the 2021 US Open, along with several other major top-five finishes.

The top performers from the weekend’s LIV event in Indianapolis included Munoz (-22), Rahm (-22), Dustin Johnson (-20), Niemann (-17), David Puig (-17), Branden Grace (-17), and Carlos Ortiz (-17).
