The shift towards electric vehicles is being fueled by various factors, from environmental concerns to cost savings. Peter Greaves, also known as Petrol Ped, has extensive experience driving both electric and petrol cars. Over the years, he has observed significant improvements in EV infrastructure since his first electric car drive six years ago.

According to Peter, the most notable change in the past six years is the enhanced EV charging infrastructure, although there is still room for improvement. The availability of rapid chargers at service stations and retail parks has increased, but so has the number of electric vehicles on the road. This surge in EVs has led to occasional challenges with finding available charging stations, especially during long journeys.

The UK government has set a target of installing 300,000 charging points by 2030 to ensure convenient access to public EV chargers for motorists without home charging facilities. However, Peter highlighted that public charging is typically more expensive than home charging, emphasizing the advantages of having a personal charger for cost-effective overnight charging.

Peter also noted the recent introduction of more affordable family-sized EVs, making electric vehicles more accessible. He addressed misconceptions about EV battery longevity and replacement costs, highlighting the durability of EV batteries and the potential for significant savings in the pre-owned EV market.

In conclusion, Peter advised potential buyers to consider second-hand electric vehicles, pointing out the value and bargains available in the current pre-owned EV market.
