During a dispute over a stolen motorbike, a 21-year-old man was shot at close range and received a chilling message from the alleged shooter before fleeing the scene, a court revealed.
The incident took place in Battersea, southwest London, where Rico Andrews was fatally shot in the chest by a pillion passenger on a moped in October 2023. Witnesses reported hearing a heated argument between two men, followed by a gunshot and a distressing scream late at night, according to testimonies at the Old Bailey.
As the moped driver sped away from the scene, one of the individuals on the vehicle was heard saying, “That’s karma.” Despite the swift arrival of emergency services, Mr. Andrews succumbed to his injuries.
Joshua Eno, 25, from Tooting, is currently standing trial for the murder, accused of being the gunman. Prosecutor Brian O’Neill KC stated, “On the evening of Thursday, 5 October 2023, Rico Andrews was fatally shot in the chest in Battersea. The gunman, identified as Josh Eno, arrived on a moped with another individual, Tyrone Attwood, who was driving the vehicle.”
“Rico Andrews lost his life due to a disagreement over a stolen motorbike, taken earlier that day by Eno and Attwood during a robbery at BMW Battersea. Believing Andrews had taken the bike from them, they confronted him, leading to the fatal shooting by Eno at close range,” O’Neill added.
The jury was informed, “The key issue for consideration is whether Joshua Eno was armed with the firearm that killed Rico Andrews or if it was the victim’s own weapon that discharged during a struggle between them.”
While Eno and Attwood were convicted of the motorbike robbery from the BMW dealership, valued at £19,995, the weapon used in the shooting was never recovered. However, two knives were discovered at the scene, including one found in the victim’s pocket.
DNA evidence linked a Rambo-style blade, found on a nearby rooftop, to the victim and another individual present during the incident.
Eno has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge, and the trial at the Old Bailey is ongoing.
