The popular television show, the Great British Bake Off, is set to make its return on Channel 4 tonight, with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, alongside hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, back in action.
It has been eight years since the show transitioned from BBC, leading to the departure of beloved judge Mary Berry. The decision for Berry to leave came after Love Productions, the show’s production company, sold the broadcasting rights to Channel 4 in 2016.
Despite Berry’s departure, hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins chose to remain with the BBC, while Paul Hollywood opted to move to Channel 4.
In a statement, Mary Berry expressed her loyalty to the BBC, emphasizing the unique and brilliant nature of the show that had been nurtured since its inception. She expressed gratitude for her time on the show and bid farewell to the Bake Off family.
Although Berry does not watch the show anymore, she shared her well wishes for Alison Hammond, who joined as a co-presenter in 2023, highlighting the different perspectives each presenter brings to the Bake Off experience.
The new season, featuring 12 new bakers, is expected to kick off at 8 pm, with Paul Hollywood anticipating a high level of baking skills among the contestants. He noted the continual improvement in baking standards over the show’s history, praising the bakers for their creativity and resilience in facing challenging tasks.
