Doctors were surprised when a pregnant woman arrived at the hospital complaining of stomach pains. The 26-year-old woman, who was 34 weeks pregnant, was found to have a large 35cm cyst surrounding her baby. This cyst, initially discovered during an ultrasound six weeks earlier, had gone unnoticed until the third trimester.
Images provided by NeedToKnow showed an ultrasound scan of the cyst before its removal, illustrating its position enveloping part of the uterus. Due to the cyst’s impact, the baby’s growth had slowed, prompting doctors to perform surgery. The cyst, containing 11 liters of fluid and measuring 35cm in diameter, was found to be benign and was successfully removed from the left ovary.
The baby was delivered via Caesarean section, weighing 5lbs, without complications. The mother, treated at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia, recovered quickly and was discharged without any issues.
In a separate incident, new parents Petru, 31, and Natalia Obada, 32, faced a distressing situation with their newborn daughter Sophia. Sophia was diagnosed with Blepharophimosis Ptosis Epicanthus Inversus Syndrome (BPES), a condition affecting her eyelids and vision. Sophia’s Type 1 BPES hindered her eyelids from fully opening, potentially leading to permanent sight loss.
Petru and Natalia are seeking specialized eyelid surgery in Spain for Sophia, aiming to prevent permanent blindness. Their fundraising efforts have already raised £8,000, with ongoing efforts to cover additional medical expenses. The family, from Banbury, Oxfordshire, are hopeful for Sophia’s recovery and are determined to provide her with the necessary medical care.
