Madeleine McCann, a three-year-old girl, disappeared from her holiday apartment in Portugal back in 2007, sparking worldwide curiosity about her fate for nearly two decades.

A new documentary titled “Madeleine McCann: The Search for a Suspect” is set to premiere on ITV, revisiting the various theories that have emerged since her disappearance in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

Initially considered suspects, the McCanns were later cleared by Portuguese authorities, but recent reports revealed that German prosecutors declined to investigate a couple who claimed to have accidentally hit Madeleine while driving under the influence.

Following a tip-off from a British woman, Portuguese authorities sought to investigate the possible involvement of her brother and his German wife in concealing information about Madeleine’s disappearance. However, German authorities reportedly rejected the request for an undercover operation.

While focusing primarily on suspect Christian Brueckner, investigators have explored other leads, including the abduction theory involving child trafficking. They also considered the possibility of Madeleine wandering off or being lured away by strangers.

Despite suspicions pointing to Brueckner, prosecutors have yet to gather enough evidence to charge him. The documentary will delve into the challenges of seeking justice when evidence falls short of criminal charges, with insights from experts like Dr. Graham Hill, shedding light on the complex case.

Scheduled to air on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player in September, “Madeleine McCann: The Search for a Suspect” seeks to unravel the enduring mystery surrounding the missing girl’s case.
