A woman courageously decided to reveal her identity after being sexually assaulted by her best friend’s husband, urging other victims to speak up. Sarah Glen, aged 39, was attacked by David Devine, 44, at his residence in Busby, East Renfrewshire, in December 2022. Devine’s wife had invited Sarah and her children over following news of Sarah’s relationship troubles.

While Devine’s wife briefly left to attend to their children upstairs, he seized the opportunity to assault Sarah on the sofa. His wife intervened upon returning and stopped the assault. Devine was found guilty of rape and sexual assault at the High Court in Edinburgh and received a six-year prison sentence.

Sarah, a mother of three, expressed her ordeal, stating she was vulnerable following her recent separation and had sought solace from her friend. Despite repeatedly refusing Devine’s advances, he persisted, leading to the assault. Sarah emphasized the importance of speaking out to protect others and warned about the danger posed by perpetrators like Devine.

Rape Crisis Scotland’s CEO, Sandy Brindley, commended Sarah for her bravery in sharing her story to support fellow survivors. Brindley highlighted the challenges faced by survivors in navigating the criminal justice system post-assault.
