A luxurious Spanish hotel in La Manga, Murcia, faced a significant salmonella outbreak affecting over 100 guests, leading to widespread concern. The Izan Cavanna Hotel, a renowned four-star establishment, expressed deep regret over the incident and assured the public that they are actively working to address the issue.

Health authorities in the region disclosed that 47 individuals required urgent medical attention at the A&E unit of Santa Lucia Hospital in Cartagena, with nine still under treatment. Among the affected were several children, including a 15-month-old infant and a pregnant woman in a delicate condition, whose husband criticized the hotel for allegedly neglecting their situation.

Responding promptly, the hotel established a field hospital on-site to assist guests experiencing symptoms of food poisoning such as nausea, vomiting, and fever. Initially reported as 28 cases, the number of affected individuals soared to over 100 out of the 800 guests staying at the hotel by the following day. While investigations are ongoing, health authorities suspect a salmonella outbreak linked to specific food items served at the hotel’s restaurant.

In a detailed statement, Izan Cavanna Hotel outlined their immediate actions, including collaboration with health authorities, providing support to affected guests, and implementing enhanced hygiene protocols across their facilities. Expressing solidarity with the impacted guests, the hotel management pledged transparency and diligence in managing the situation.

One guest at the hotel expressed frustration over the lack of communication and assistance from the hotel staff, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Health officials reported that 24 adults and 23 children received medical attention since the outbreak, with initial findings pointing to salmonella as the probable cause, pending final test results expected in the coming weeks.
