A strong earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale hit the eastern coast of Russia earlier today. The United States Geological Survey confirmed that the earthquake occurred on Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula during the early hours of Saturday, September 13. This seismic event followed a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake that recently struck the same region, ranking as the sixth most powerful earthquake ever recorded.
The USGS indicated that the epicenter of the latest earthquake was located 111.7 km (69.3 miles) east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, with a depth of approximately 39 km (24 miles). Despite the tremor, the US Tsunami warning system has not issued any alerts regarding a potential tsunami threat.
